Background
Outdoor activities, also known as friluftsliv, is about spending time in nature to experience calm, freedom, and adventure.
It can be hiking, paddling, cycling, fishing, or simply taking a quiet walk in the forest.
In the Friluftsliv podcast, we talk about tips, gear, safety, and nature experiences that inspire a life closer to nature.
Outdoor life is a long-standing tradition in Sweden and is protected by the Right of Public Access (allemansrätten).
Being able to move freely in forests and natural areas, and being allowed to pick berries and mushrooms,
is essential for people’s opportunities to enjoy outdoor recreation and other outdoor activities.
Several studies show that there are large differences in outdoor participation between different groups: gender, age, living situation, income, etc.
According to a national survey by the Folkhälsomyndigheten, outdoor recreation is significantly more common among people with higher income and education,
and among those living in rural areas — highlighting how demographic and socio-economic factors influence who takes part in outdoor life.
